The City of Brownsville is a Keep Texas Beautiful Proud Community. Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) is a statewide 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to beautifying and improving community environments through programming and education addressing litter prevention beautification, and waste reduction. KTB works with affiliate communities, government agencies, businesses, civic groups, and volunteers to ensure that every Texan has the opportunity to make Texas the cleanest, most beautiful state in the nation. Keep Texas Beautiful is a certified state affiliate of Keep

America Beautiful (KAB).

In 2001, the Brownsville Beautification Committee formed a Keep Brownsville Beautiful (KBB) subcommittee of volunteers to ensure that Brownsville completed the requirements to be a KTB affiliate.  All KBB subcommittee members are given local training which includes a citywide tour highlighting ongoing projects and participation in Brownsville’s Litter Index in order to target new project locations and areas of the city that require more focus.  KBB subcommittee members attend KTB Basic Training and several attend the State KTB Convention.  Each year, KBB utilizes a combination of municipal and grant funding as well as private donations for the planting and maintenance of trees, landscaping, anti-litter campaigns and others projects directed by its mission statement.
